Mediterranean Counter-Attack!

Under a plane tree, near South Cretan city of Gortyna
a Phoenician princess, Europa, conceived  by Zeus
three sons, Minos, Rhadamanthys and Sarpedon.
Europa riding the bull across the Mediterranean Sea
and heading toward the island of Crete
is the most recognizable icon of South Crete.
Τherefore, Libyan, or South Cretan Sea,
should be renamed to «Sea of Europa».

Between Crete and Cyprus stands the city of Demre (originally Myra)
or Saint Nicholas City. For this reason the sea in question
should be renamed to «Sea of Santa Claus»,
the most recognizable icon of the region.
Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors
still waits a sea devoted to him.

Oil spill density in the Mediterranean Sea
for the period 1999-2004

As a semi-enclosed sea, the Mediterranean is highly vulnerable to pollution events. Recent discoveries of major oil and natural gas reserves in the eastern Levantine basin have led to accelerated drilling, with several countries at various stages of exploration and production and others having mapped blocks for licensing, thereby significantly increasing the risks of a potential spill.

...choose the immortals,
instead of drilling mortals!
