Afridi was critical of the Pakistani government, the Taliban, and the patriarchal nature of Pakistani society. In June 2012, she told journalists she was being threatened. Her friends and colleagues suspected the threats originated with FATA Taliban militants. On 5 July 2012, as Afridi left her home in the Khyber tribal area to go to work in Hayatabad a suburb of Peshawar, she was shot once in the head and twice in the neck by two motorcyclists, who afterwards escaped. She died in hospital. (wiki)

....
In hysterics, these clerics had envisioned a demon
A spirit so quick to deliver a beating
To the enemies of peace, love, logic and reason
Yeah - hit 'em with a logical reason
Kill extremism, corruption and just stop it from breathing
The way it was, she'll be taking it back
So tune in for the story of the lady in black
Don't mess with the lady in black
When she's on the attack
....
The original idea behind the series came from the pop star Haroon for an Iphone game called “Burka Revenge”, and later a decision was taken to make it into an animated series.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Laaltain, he said: “There seems to be this presumption in the public eye that we have taken inspiration from the Malala incident, whereas truth is that we had this idea back in April of 2012, long before Malala was shot by Taliban. Our script was ready in May 2012 and animation had started back then, an episode normally takes between 4 and 6 weeks to complete, so to say this has been inspired by Malala is wildly inaccurate.
The policy of dissociation from Malala is ironic and could have been adopted to avoid any controversy because Malala has been a subject of criticism from right wing sections of the society.

12 July UN speech (text)
The wise saying, “The pen is mightier than sword” was true. The extremists are afraid of books and pens. The power of education frightens them. They are afraid of women. The power of the voice of women frightens them. And that is why they killed 14 innocent medical students in the recent attack in Quetta. And that is why they killed many female teachers and polio workers in Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa and FATA. That is why they are blasting schools every day. Because they were and they are afraid of change, afraid of the equality that we will bring into our society.
You have said in your speech yesterday that pen is mightier than sword, so they attacked you for your sword not for your books or school. There were thousands of girls who were going to school and college before and after the Taliban insurgency in swat, would you explain why were only you on their hit list???
....another target, Hina Khan, a 17-year-old Pakistani schoolgirl from the Swat District. She has been campaigning for women's right to education since she was 13, and has been threatened by Islamist extremists because of her activism.

In Kandahar province, the mayor of Kandahar city, Ghulam Haider Hamidi, said that he would not go vote. "For the last three years the security is getting worse, day by day," Hamidi stated. "Even a child understands that the election day is not safe." His daughter, Rangina Hamidi, a prominent women's advocate, said that it was not worth the risk and that she would not vote either:
"My message to the women of Kandahar is this: don't go vote and put yourselves at risk for nothing."
